Karyn is a Boston University School of Law Graduate and currently works as the Founder, Chief Activator, and Systems Entrepreneur at Shift the Prism Advisory. Karyn’s journey offers a masterclass on trying new things and being open to new jobs. All from what I call her as, The Master of Legal Financial Services.
Karyn and I start in her first year of Law School at Boston University School of Law. Karyn would be one of those people who loved Law School, as she always wanted to be a lawyer and felt that experience was awesome to be a part of. Karyn notes that as a concrete theoretical thinker, the marriage between that and the facts of any given case was the perfect blend, that she would enjoy for the rest of her legal career. She also found the law to be an amazing vehicle to uplift others.
We then moved to Karyn’s post Law school experiences starting as a corporate attorney in the Big Law setting. She cherished the mentors she had early in her career, laying the foundation and groundwork for the great success that would ensue in her career.
Then starting at Citi Bank, Karyn made a conscious decision to continue to gain experiences, being a student for life. For the following 6 years at Citi Bank, she would hold 5 different positions, all with the purpose of adding more value and skills to her arsenal, a prime example of a great approach to anyone’s legal career.
Finally, we spoke about her time at PNC, recruited for her amazing skills, and continued to hold different positions to gain even more skills. At the end of her career, she would have every job she could in legal financial services, becoming an expert to those interested in the industry. We also spoke about what she does today at Shift the Prism Advisory, advising, consulting, and coaching, supporting founders who impact their communities.
This episode is a masterclass on navigating the legal financial services industry and offering as much value as possible to any employer. As Karyn says, this is a lesson in being a student for life—never, ever, stop learning!
